Real flyer · marked up live

1plastic sheen: chicken looks airbrushed, not grilled
2texture glitch: that honeycomb shape isn't a real cut of meat
3cloned shapes: every meatball is identically sized and spaced
4borrowed badge: crown and ribbon, not this business's actual identity

Same dishes, different design

New Layout.
Same Tells.

This is a second flyer for the same business, just restyled, different fonts, different badges, different colour story. But the underlying photos came from the same AI generation, so the same flaws ride along no matter how it's redesigned. You can't design your way out of a bad generation.

The checklist

Six Tells We Catch
in Two Seconds

None of these require a trained eye for AI art. Once you know what you're looking for, customers will spot them too. Which is the problem.

Repeating identical shapes

The same meatball, leaf or grain rendered at the exact same size, over and over. Real food never lines up that neatly.

Textures that don't exist

A honeycomb pattern in a stew, a seam where two ingredients melt together. Anything your eye snags on for half a second.

One light, several directions

Shadows falling left on one dish and right on the next, because each element was generated separately and stitched together.

A sheen with no source

Protein that looks airbrushed rather than fried, grilled or roasted. Real food has matte patches; AI food rarely does.

A badge, not a brand

Crowns, ribbons and brush-stroke banners pulled from a template pack instead of the business's own identity.

Suspicious symmetry

Plates centred to the pixel, garnish placed like a logo, nothing knocked slightly out of place by an actual human hand.

What you'll create

We Made This.
You'll Learn How.

This is a real flyer we built for Japaflex. Brand, layout, photography and typography working together. In this session you'll learn to produce work like this for your own business, whether through new Canva techniques or using AI stylistically.

What You'll
Walk Out With

A prompt structure for realistic food and product shots that holds up at full size, not just as a thumbnail.

Canva fundamentals for layout and type, so the photo, the badge and the text all read like they belong to the same business.

A 30-second self-check to run on any AI image before it goes anywhere near a customer.

Layout and type choices that read as designed for this business, not pulled from a template pack.

A rebuilt version of the AfroGrubs flyer, fixing every flaw flagged in today's teardown, built live.

Direct feedback on your own flyer from the group and the instructor, before you publish anything.

Who this is for

Built For People
Making Their Own Marketing

Restaurant and food brand owners posting their own flyers and menus

Business owners in any field who want to create professional marketing without hiring a designer

Anyone learning Canva who wants to combine it with AI image generation for a serious result

Anyone who's made an AI flyer, felt something was "off," and couldn't say what

Why this pays off

What This Skill
Is Worth

Business owners in food, beauty, events and retail are all making their own marketing. A flyer that looks designed is the difference between ignored and booked.

A flyer that looks genuinely designed turns browsers into customers, and gives your business the credibility that stock templates never will.

Build the prompt structure once. Reuse it for every flyer, menu or promo you make after this.
